ACTIVITY CHECK
-
An activity check is used to determine if a claimant’s current activity levels are consistent with the reported disability. A claimant’s hobbies, outdoor interests and activities can be established during the initial AOE/COE statement. Subsequent, monitoring is usually short surveillance periods, typically 4 hours at a time. If suspicious behavior is discovered during an activity check, longer surveillance is usually authorized. Sometimes activity checks are ordered when claimants attend their scheduled medical treatment or see their doctor for a routine visit.
An activity check can also include field interviews that are designed to assess the claimant’s activity level by discreetly interviewing neighbors and other persons who may have information about the claimant’s level of activity, their injury, and other related information. These interviews could establish possible new activites, undisclosed hobbies, work schedules, or overall activity. This service can assist in pinpointing opportune times or locations where the subject will be most active
